Houston Home Interior Design: a Modern Project Reveal

Romantic and Modern neutral dining room - Laura U Interior Design

I love projects that really exemplify these 3 key elements: classic elegance, functionality, and comfort. We hit the trifecta in this romantic, contemporary home. The client has a young family and loves to travel, so she desired a space that was foremost family-friendly, but also worldly and sophisticated.

The warm, natural hues of Sedona inspired this home’s color palette. We incorporated earthy textures and tones as a nod to the natural beauty of the outdoors, which can be seen right outside the home’s large windows! It’s important to bring the natural surroundings of the outdoors in, and throughout the home you will notice organic shapes and plenty of wood and natural stone. Metallic accents add an edgy, feminine touch in some unexpected places.

So let’s take a look back at this neutral-toned beauty which, I am thrilled to report, received an Honorable Mention Award at the American Society of Interior Designers TX Ruby Awards in 2017!

Contemporary and Timeless Color Palette

We selected a color palette of rich browns and soft creams to marry our client’s love of natural, organic elements with contemporary interior design. It’s a classic color combination that provides a soft contrast to the gold-tinged light fixtures.

We went with this softer palette to set the stage for a soothing, almost meditative open concept. What a perfect backdrop for the collected Moroccan pieces our client loves to showcase! Whenever working with a neutral base, it’s important to select structured, sculptural pieces that add visual interest without distracting colors or patterns.

The first space you see when you enter the home is this chic dining room. The warm tan hues of the dining room table and chairs pick up the tones of the wood floors. The white oak credenza from Ambella Home adds a cool, natural element to the space. And the gold Mangrove Wood Root mirror from Made Goods brings in texture and movement.

The sculptural dining chairs and leaf wall art from Phillips Collection make such a striking combo. The woven seat belt design of the chairs is so unique and unexpected. We had a lot of fun combining contemporary designs with more organic elements in this home.

This great room is filled with tons of natural light and has a gorgeous view of the backyard. The crisp white walls act as the perfect backdrop for the geometric pendant lights from
Anthropologie
. I love the mixture of the brass tones against the soft creams and beiges of the sectional and area rug. To create separation between the kitchen and the great room without interrupting the flow, we incorporated a large, low-line sectional.

We paired two gorgeous Palecek lounge chairs with the sectional to create a cozy seating arrangement. And the rounded, pebble-like ottomans add a soft contrast to the textures and angles within the room. To highlight our client’s collection of objects from their travels, we used a textured fabric on the back of the bookshelves.

This Madeval Kitchen is a great alternative to the classic all-white contemporary look

Next to the great room is this striking white and copper kitchen! We partnered with Madeval, a fabulous kitchen studio, to create a space that’s functional and stunning. Known for their clean lines and modern details, these cabinets keep everything organized and easy to access.

Parents everywhere are looking at all the white in this room and thinking, “No way! Not with little ones.” Our client has nothing to worry about. We upholstered the sofa in a high-performance fabric, so spills or stains are easily wiped away with a damp cloth. The homeowner’s pup jumped on the arm of the sectional (trying to get in on our photo shoot action!) and we didn’t bat an eye.

To add warmth to the crisp white cabinetry, we incorporated a copper stove, vent hood, and pendant lights. The Calcutta-look porcelain waterfall island complements the metallic tones and sleek white walls and cabinets. And the custom bar stools in Glitz colorway from Kravet add a touch of glam to the kitchen.

Glamorous metallic touches reflect strength and femininity in this bedroom.

Glamorous and modern interior design of the master bedroom

Glamorous Metallic Accents

We chose this bold brass canopy bed to be the star of the master bedroom. I am not fond of the trendy bedrooms that are either too masculine or too feminine. The master is the ideal space to blend styles. Keeping the color palette the same as the rest of the home, this bed is a showstopping reflection of softeness and strength.

The Hanley Flush Mount light and Philomena table lamps from Arteriors add an organic and contemporary vibe to the room. We chose a beautiful rope inspired edging on the drapery to add in a touch of natural texture. The result is a serene, sleek, and glam space.

This lucite stool is functional and takes up little visual space in this bathroom.

For the master bathroom, we created custom cabinet doors with a Moroccan-inspired design which gives the space an exotic feel. The striking white marble floor which flows up onto the shower walls creates a continuous feel of luxury. The gold cabinet hardware, faucet, and shower head are sophisticated and glam. The Polaris sconces in antique brass and acrylic stool complete this gorgeous, contemporary master bathroom.

Contemporary and Elegant

Natural materials, airy colors, and unique textures throughout this home make our client feel like they are in their favorite place every day. The home’s interior seamlessly blends the beauty of the outdoors with modern, contemporary designs. The result is a luxurious and family-friendly space that will be gorgeous for years to come.
