Moodboard Monday: Mid-Century Edition

The sitting room of Green Tree with chairs re-finished by House and Town

The Green Tree Residence is located in Houston’s Tanglewood neighborhood, where beautiful mid-century homes are the norm. Our clients immediately fell in love with both the architecture and the location. They had been collectors of mid-century furnishings for years and were very drawn to the style.

Our goal was to modernize the home, while honoring its historical integrity.  Being a ranch, the home originally was darker and not as functional for the entertaining our clients so enjoy – we opened up the space, poured new terrazzo, and created unique elements, like a double-sided fireplace. The library has custom shelving and a built-in that performs triple-duty, as a place to hold collectibles, books, and two work areas, complete with Saarinen chairs.

Every room was designed around the client’s existing furnishings, which we re-upholstered in eye-catching fabrics. Mid-century style is usually typified by its vibrant color palette of turquoise and tangerine. You will find those colors here in a more subdued form.
