It might come as a surprise, but one of my favorite rooms to design is the master suite. This space is like having your own personal getaway to come home to after a long day or a spot to enjoy yourself in the morning. There’s something so special and cozy about it that I just love.

The first thing to consider when thinking about the design is how you want to use the seating area. Maybe you want the space to be where you enjoy your morning cup of coffee before the kids wake up or maybe it’s where you want to spend time reading in the evening with a glass of wine. Or perhaps it’s a spot to have a family time in the morning on the weekends.

Once you decide how you want the space to function, it’s important to think about how much space you have for seating. If you have a large bedroom, you might want to have a completely separate seating arrangement with chairs or a sofa. However, if you don’t have tons of extra space, you can always include a bench at the end of your bed.

There are so many ways to design this space, so today I want to share a few ways you can create the perfect seating arrangement in your master suite.

Use a pair of chairs

A set of chairs with an ottoman makes for a cozy seating area in the master suite. It gives you space to relax and I love that the ottoman can also be used as a footstool or table. It’s the perfect spot to cuddle up and read your favorite book, catch up on the latest news or enjoy your cup of coffee in your room before getting your day started.

Opt for a sofa

If you want a bit more seating in your room, try adding a sofa. It’s great for our clients with kiddos because it gives your family a place to gather and relax before bedtime. Or you can use the space to watch a movie in the peace of your own room without having to sit in bed. If you have an extra large master suite or a room with high ceilings, using a sofa can help make the room feel more intimate and personal.

Finish it off with a bench

But if you don’t have space for a full seating area, you can always incorporate a bench at the end of your bed. It gives you a spot to read the paper or put on your shoes in the morning before heading out the door without taking up too much room. A bench is also a fun way to add a pop of color or unexpected pattern to your design.
A seating arrangement in your master bedroom is a fabulous way to create your own personal getaway spot and add a bit of personality. But no matter how much space you have or how you choose to use the space, there are plenty of ways to design something that works for you and your family.
