High Contrast Modern with Sunpan

Timeless and chic, black is the quintessential hue when you’re feeling indecisive about your wardrobe. But I often feel like homeowners shy away from the shade when it comes to paint and furnishings. That may be changing. I saw plenty of black while at High Point last month. I saw black on black lamps, saturated black walls, and moody vignettes contrasting with crisp white drapery.

This Tudor Revival home was originally built in the 1920s, but a recent addition caused the home to appear a little anachronistic. Case in point: this sunken living room. Built in the 1970s, this space was a disco-era dream with high paneled walls and shag carpet. Approaching the design, I liked the bones, but needed to make the room feel less dated. Instant classic: black and white.

This is actually my living room. This is where my family gathers to watch football in the fall, baseball in the summer, and Netflix and chill any day in between. For the past couple of years, the room has incorporated an upholstered ottoman and decorative trays as places for drinks and snacks. But after a cocktail party that grew in size, I realized that I needed a different solution.

With young twins, I am always on the lookout for pieces that can withstand rowdy play, while also looking effortlessly chic. I found Sunpan’s Diesel table online and ordered two. Ordering was super easy because Sunpan offers a great trade program and finding what you want online is a breeze. I love the look of mixed metals with the marble tops. When they arrived, I was surprised at how heavy they are! A great plus in the durability column.

I will let you see for yourself how this mini project turned out. But I wanted to appreciate Sunpan for a second. Sunpan’s goal is to offer the best in design, quality and value for interior designers. Visiting them during High Point, I was very impressed with the hospitality of their staff, and their vignettes were beautiful. Might I add, there was a lot of black too! I toured a couple spaces and was told they offer quick ship on all in-stock items, which is a huge benefit to the design team. It is not unusual for some items to take up to 8 weeks or more to be delivered to the studio.
